NYC Marathon training update – weeks 1- 4

After writing this post on how to train for the NYC marathon and reading my sister’s review on the NYRR virtual training program, I ended up getting the program too!

So far I love it – you can add in running races you’re scheduled to do, move workouts around, etc.  My only thing about it: I can’t add second workouts (i.e. brick workouts [running + swimming] can only be listed as cross training on the schedule.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks – the tri, having friends visit one weekend, going out to the Hamptons, my internship ended on Thursday, etc.  It’s crazy that my marathon training kicked off with a triathlon….

As much as I tried to get back into running after the tri, triathlon training made me hate running. The weather the past couple of weeks didn’t help either – all in the high 80s or 90s. Also, I took my FitReserve off hold and have been going to all the classes I can get to as I haven’t done much strength work during tri training.

Okay, at the end of the day I might be using all of the above as an excuse to not work but I finally got around to doing a long run last Saturday – 10 miles up Summer Streets!

week 1 – week of 7/13
Monday – rest day
Tuesday – mini brick [4 mile bike ride, 1 mile run]
Wednesday – rest day
Thursday – mini brick [20 minute swim, 20 minute bike ride]
Friday – 1 hour of outdoor yoga
Saturday – 10 minute swim, 10 minute bike ride
Sunday – NYC Triathlon [1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run] – > recap here

week 2 – week of 7/20
Monday – rest day
Tuesday – rest day
Wednesday – 3.6 mile run
Thursday – 2.9 mile run, 15 minute bike ride, 1 hour outdoor yoga
Friday – rest day
Saturday – 3 mile run
Sunday – 55 sculpt fusion class at Uplift & 14 mile bike ride

I love tall people! So good seeing friends/ex-coworkers again.

week 3 – week of 7/27
Monday – 55 min strength class at Uplift
Tuesday – 4 mile run
Wednesday – 30 minute swim; 20 minutes strength workout; 1.9 mile run
Thursday – 1 hour core class & 1 hour yoga class
Friday – 20 minutes of swimming, 45 minutes run/jogging on treadmill, 20 minutes bike riding
Saturday – 30 minute yoga class at Well-thy Women’s Health event
Sunday – rest day

week 4 – week of 8/2 
Monday – 55 min strength class at Uplift
Tuesday – 55 min strength class at Uplift
Wednesday – 50 min Exceed class & 1 hour pilates mat class at Xtend Brooklyn
Thursday – rest day
Friday – 45 minute spin class at Swerve & 1 hour Deep Stretch & Renew class at Uplift
Saturday – 10 mile run!  & 55 minute sculpt fusion class at Uplift
Sunday – rest day at the beach!

I can’t believe I go back to work today and start school in exactly 2 weeks. The summer is quickly winding down, which makes me SO SAD. I still have so many things I want to do before school starts again. That includes SUP yoga…which I’ll be doing on Sunday. Here’s the plan for the week:

Monday – yoga class & 50 minute Exceed class
Tuesday -55 minute Uplift Strength
Wednesday – 5 miles
Thursday – 3 miles
Friday – 5 miles

Saturday – 11 miles
Sunday – SUP yoga
