A Virtual Coffee Date: August 2016

Sometimes you just need to write down your thoughts… but they aren’t all worthy of a blog post. So grab an iced coffee and let’s “chat”….

I’m kinda obsessed with Birch coffee.

So if we were having coffee today….I’d tell you that I signed up for a half-marathon recently! This might be the longest period of time that I’ve gone without doing a race or a half-marathon for that matter.  My law school classmates and I signed up for Rock N’ Roll Philly, which is September 18th.  I did this race two years ago and I’m excited to do it again. Philly is mostly flat and Rock N’ Roll knows how to throw a good party.

P.S. get a big discount from Groupon or LivingSocial!

If we were having coffee today….I’d tell you that I’m equally excited, scared, and anxious to be a 3L. Summer classes officially ended two weeks ago so as far as I know (read: here’s hoping I didn’t fail any of these classes), I’m caught up in credit hours and now a 3L! Class starts on the 19th and I already bought textbooks. I’m also taking the MPRE on Saturday, a professional ethics exam that I’m required to pass before getting admitted to the bar. This only makes everything feel so real. It’s also scary to be applying for lawyer jobs for the fall of 2017 but it’s exhilarating to almost be done with school FOREVER.

If we were having coffee today….I’d tell you that I re-kindled my obsession with spin class, more specifically Swerve, which is on FitReserve. I’ve been going at least 2x a week for the past month or so.

If we were having coffee today….I’d tell you it’s technically my last week of my internship! I’ve been at a public defender organization all summer and love it.  After talking with my supervisor last week, I decided to stay on for the fall semester. I’ve been feeling more and more comfortable being on the record (read: talking like a grown up lawyer in court proceedings like arraignments). I even got my first bail application last week (i.e. I made an argument to a criminal court judge on the record in arraignments as to why she should release my client). Also, it’s amazing to see how my work positively affects clients (i.e. the judge on my bail application let my client out on their own recognizance and two other cases I worked on eventually got dismissed).

If we were having coffee today….I’d tell you to read this awesome new blog, Date Like A Champion, started by one of my best friends. Because who doesn’t love bad dating stories!

If we were having coffee today…. I’d tell you that despite not having a ton of free time this summer, I’ve gotten to do some fun things. I went to a Yankee game and the Guggenheim a few weeks ago. And this weekend, I’ll be going to San Diego for a few days!

If we were having coffee today…. I’d tell you that I did have a long commute to my internship and got lots of non-law school reading done. Of the books I’ve read so far this summer, here are my favorites:
  • If you’re looking for an absolutely entertaining, well-written chick lit book, then read “Eligible”by Curtis Sittenfeld
  • If you love Mindy Kaling as much as me, then you should read “Why Not Me? ” by Mindy Kaling
  • If you’re curious what the criminal justice system is really like, then read “Indefensible” by David Feige
  • If you want to read about the history of single women in the US, then read “All the Single Ladies” by Rebecca Traister
  • If you want a hilarious and thoughtful memoir (similar to Tina Fey or Mindy Kaling’s books) then read “Not that Kind of Girl” by Lena Dunham
If we were having coffee today, what would you tell me about?
