Fall 2016: where did the time go?

No seriously, what happened? I cannot believe that I haven’t written in two months. It’s been way too long.

I’m not sure where to start so much has happened since August 8…and my last post.

Running & working out

I’ve been bad and part of me is on a break with running right now (or has been since the spring). I had that voucher from JackRabbit so I signed up for the half-marathon training program and for 80% of it, I was training really well but I never did the Brooklyn Half because I was sick.

I thought I would try again so I signed up for the Rock n’ Roll Philly Half marathon which I ran two years ago. I’m not a huge fan of the course but my law school classmates signed up for it. When it came down to it I wasn’t trained well enough and I couldn’t switch to the 5K so I didn’t both.

Lately, as I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been all about Swerve. I’ve been going a ton the past few weeks. I also went to Brick 2x in August (WHICH IS SO HARD) but since that, I really haven’t done strength training at all until yesterday. I went to an “Uplift Express” class at Uplift and I am still so sore.

I sorta hate hiking but I’ll go (if you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m more a water sports person).  I went to Bear Mountain, less than an hour from NYC, on Labor Day weekend and there were a ton of people there.  I’m not sure if it really counts as a real hike because you can actually drive to the top of the mountain. It definitely would be a great place to check out when it’s less busy but definitely did not feel like a real hike.

Life & law school

It’s weird to be a 3L. It’s very weird. Everyone says it’s senior year of college all over again. Like full blown senioritis but what I’m finding is that it’s much harder than everyone says it is.  The job hunt is going and there a bunch of interviews lined up but  honestly if all rounds are successful, I won’t hear back until at least the winter so it’s a looooooonggggg wait.
But progress is progress. Back in January, I could barely handle giving a closing argument for a mock trial but just last week, I gave a 10 minute closing argument in a job interview.   So high fives for progress!
Speaking of progress, I went back to my old college a few weekends ago for Homecoming (I’m on the board of directors).  It felt weird. I graduated college 7 years ago and I’ve officially been on the board for longer than I was in college so that’s crazy.
Anyways, life has felt busy and stressful for all of the reasons stated above. However, I’ve still found time to explore this amazing city that I live in.
A few weeks ago, I went to Wave Hill in the Bronx. It was pretty hard to get to but it’s really nice.  It’s a park with a few trails you can walk. It’s definitely not as big as the New York Botanical Garden which is also in the Bronx but it’s definitely a cheap thing to do on a weekend afternoon.

Plus last Thursday night, after playing a murder witness for a trial advocacy class, I went to the opera, which I’ve never done before. It was pretty good – La Boheme is quite funny for an opera.

the Playbill at the opera!

I love NYC in the fall. There are so many things going on around the city.  Hopefully with all this good fall weather, I’ll be back running. With all my friends training for halfs and marathons, I’m starting to get the bug again but we’ll see.  (Hearing about my sister’s run through the rain during today’s Staten Island Half or about my friends who all got injured running the Chicago marathon today can really turn me off to running).
