Oh New Years! In with the new, out with the old! I do love reflecting on the past year and I love reading my old New Years posts: last year (2016), 2015, 2014/2013.
As far as 2017 goes, it’s the only year I knocked out all of my New Year’s Resolutions.
A condensed version of my New Year’s Resolutions = graduate law school, get a job, PASS THE BAR EXAM, get over the breakup (that happened late 2016), work and focus on myself more.
Well, I absolutely killed it. At the beginning of 2017, all of the goals looked impossible. Absolutely heartbreakingly impossible. In 2017, so many things were up in their air – like where would I get a job, what state would I practice in, did I pass the bar?
Somehow I managed to cross all those goals off the list. It’s been a crazy year – personally, professionally, emotionally, even physically (bye law school weight!).
But what really made 2017 was the people. Having a strong support system through some really rough times (i.e. last winter, bar prep) is crucial. Some people popped back into my life out of nowhere (who doesn’t love that random text out of the blue) as a reminder of how far I’ve come. I met a ton of new people who taught and showed me new things. And some people left my life too and that’s all for the best.
Anyways, here’s a recap:
January 2017
I ended 2016 by flying to the Philippines from Japan, where I spent 2 weeks. I also did the Cebu Half-Marathon to kick off the year.
Plus we also did nots of para sailing in Cebu and aerial yoga in Manila.
February 2017
I escaped the New York winter by going down to Florida for an interview.
Plus I finally took a climbing class and started doing aerial yoga at Sacred Sounds in the West Village.
March 2017
I went to Chicago for a conference. Despite the cold, I ended up running 9 miles around the city.

Plus I did the NYC Half-Marathon. I got my graduation photos done the day I picked up my bib so hence the hair. I also did a meditation class at Yo Yoga!
April 2017
I ran 3 races this month: the Ladies First Half-Marathon, SHAPE Women’s Half-Marathon and the UAE 10K.
My birthday is in April! So of course I had a party.
May 2017
June – July 2017
NO real highlights here, except that I studied for the bar exam 12-14 hours a day. Then took the bar exam.
I did do a race just 4 weeks before the bar exam.
August 2017
I went to Spain and Portugal and when I got back I started a new job.
September 2017
I did the Bronx 10 miler! Plus I finally went to Wanderlust 108 in Prospect Park.
Also, I DYED MY HAIR BLONDE! hahahaha
This was something I swore I’d never do because I’m going to be a lawyer but screw it, I did it anyways and I love it.
October 2017
October was a crazy fun month despite the anxiety I was feeling at the beginning of the month over bar results.
I hosted a little spin party at Swerve with my friends.
I went to a yoga and wine party!
Actually I found out a day after the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon. I also did the Staten Island Half Marathon earlier in the month.
November 2017
I went to Sweden and even though it was chilly, it was beautiful.

December 2017
I love the holidays. And holiday get togethers! I’ve been bouncing around to different holiday parties and went to Boston for a few days after Christmas.
Plus I can officially say I’m hooked on climbing. I slowly built up from just going once a week to now 3x a week. I also finally got my belay certification. I committed to a membership at Brooklyn Boulders and bought new climbing shoes too!

But enough with 2017… I’M ONTO 2018!
I’m not sure what goals to set. I knocked out some huge goals in 2017 like law school and the bar exam. Here’s a rundown of a few things I want to accomplish:
- finally PRing my half-marathon time (haven’t done this since before law school)
- getting into the 2019 Boston Marathon (would probably do this through a charity plus this falls on my 30th birthday)
- get better at climbing and do my first outdoor climb
- traveling to a continent or country I’ve never been to before
- blogging a lot more!
So where will 2018 take me….who really knows? If 2017, like 2016, and 2015 before it, taught me anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Plus have some fun in the process.
