Even though I’ve been away most weekends, I do love NYC in the summer (not so much this humidity though). The great thing about NYC in the summer is all the free things going on. Here are some of my favorite things to do in NYC in the summer:
I’ve been going to outdoor yoga in Bryant Park for years. Even though I’ve been practicing yoga for 8 years, I still have a love/hate relationship with it. However, doing yoga in Bryant Park with a couple hundred other yogis on a Thursday evening makes me love it.
Bryant Park offers free yoga on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings at 6pm every summer. Plus mats are included! So you don’t have to drag your mat around town!
There’s also plenty of free yoga around the city including free yoga Thursday evenings in Prospect Park but there’s something about Bryant Park that makes me come back week after week and summer after summer.
Kayaking in Brooklyn
I love kayaking and there’s free kayaking in Brooklyn Bridge Park as well as in Red Hook Brooklyn. Both of which, I kayaked this summer. If you want amazing views definitely check out Brooklyn Bridge Boathouse for free kayaking on the weekends and Thursday evenings.
This is one of my favorite places to bike around and another place I love to go to summer after summer. They’ve added lots more food and drink options here plus you can go glamping here too! The tents look pretty cool.
Beach Days at The Rockaways
When I moved to NYC about 7 years ago, I thought the only decent beaches were out in Long Island so I would take the Long Island Railroad all the way out there. It wasn’t until a few years ago I discovered the Rockaways as a great place to hit the beach.
Every summer after the beach, I also have to hit up Uma’s for food. It’s always fresh and delicious.
